Nevada quarterback Carson Strong on what spring practice will bring

RENO, Nev. (BVM) — Wolf Pack football has come far within the past decade. Reliving the legacy of Colin Kaepernick’s 2010 football season, the team reached the pinnacle of going 7-2 in 2020.

Now, three months later, The Pack is back on the field for spring practice. Mountain West Player of the Year Carson Strong finished his junior year with 2,858 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, both led the Mountain West Conference. After being nicknamed ‘Three Amigos,’ this coming season will be long anticipated after the play from Strong, tight end Cole Turner and wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

Nevada football is now in its second week of practice, and Strong mentioned how great things are going and what it’s like to be back on the field.

“The offense and defense are competing really hard and both sides have a lot of talent and experience,” Strong said. “I would say the defense has a lot of drive right now. We have a few transfers that have been working hard to prove themselves and I think they will play a huge part in our success this season.”

As practice is just getting started, Strong is a player who simply wants to get better and will do what it takes.

“I am looking to improve on my consistency and taking what the defense gives me every play,” Strong said.

The first game of the season is set to begin on Sept. 4. From playing against teams like Boise State and Hawaii, when sharing which game he was most excited about, Strong said all of them.

“I’m excited for all of the games but I am looking forward to our first three road games a lot,” Strong said. “We play Cal, Kansas State and Boise State all on the road this year. If we can go out in those games and compete to the best of our abilities, getting wins in those games can put us on the map. We believe we can be one of the best teams in the country and those games will be a test to that.”

Strong’s game is one to watch. The 2021 season will bring new energy with recent transfers and commits arriving at Nevada football’s fall camp practices. Given the history of Strong, Doubs and Turner, Strong mentioned what he expects from his teammates this season.

“Turner and Doubs are both phenomenal players,” Strong said. “They work extremely hard and I know I can always count on them. This year we look to really dominate the game. We don’t want to give the opposing teams a chance. We want to go full throttle from start to finish with no let-up in between.”
