Steinman picks up basketball honors before heading off to play golf at Butler

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (BVM) — There are many multi-sport talents at the high school level, and Bloomington Central Catholic’s Katie Steinman is no exception. Over the last few years, Steinman has been a force on the basketball court for the Saints.

With a strong senior season in which she became a 1,000-point scorer, Steinman was named an all-state player. She was also the lone unanimous selection to the Illini Prairie Conference girls basketball all-star team.

Steinman earned three varsity letters across her time on the hardwood at Central Catholic. In addition, she also earned one varsity letter while playing soccer for the Saints.

But Steinman’s best sport may very well be golf, and it is also what she will play at the next level. The Central Catholic senior has earned all-conference, all-region and all-sectional honors each of her years playing for the Saints.

She was also an all-state player in her first three years of high school, earning fourth, sixth and eighth-place individual finishes at the IHSA girls golf state tournament. In 2018, Steinman also helped Central Catholic to a team state title, which was the program’s first.

Although her senior season was unlike any other due to the pandemic, Steinman still put together a solid 18-hole scoring average of 74.

Steinman has also made her name known on the links for her success in Illinois Junior Golf Association events as well as playing on the American Junior Golf Tour. Now, committed to Butler University, Steinman will have her chance to shine on the national stage once again.
