Cameron Aggies fall to Bulldogs in pitching duel
LAWTON, Okla. (BVM) — The Cameron University Aggies took on the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs on Tuesday. It was a non-conference battle that came down to the wire.
In this matchup at McCord Field, both pitching staffs threw the ball well. The Aggies were taking a break from their Lone Star Conference action.
Drew Henderson started for the Aggies, and he would go three innings giving up one run, one hit, and hitting one batter. Henderson would also strike out three Bulldog batters in his outing.
Cameron took an early lead courtesy of Casey Yeager. With two outs in the second inning, he singled and drove in Ryan Carter. But that lead would be short-lived as the Bulldogs would get the run back in the next inning.
Following the third inning, the Bulldogs would take a one-run lead in their half of the fourth inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly. Aggie relief pitcher Nolan Archuleta worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam, only allowing one run to come across the plate.
Unfortunately for the Aggies, the Bulldog bullpen was just as impressive. In the final seven innings, the Bulldogs pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts and one walk.
Now Cameron, sitting at 4-22, will return to Lone Star Conference play tonight, traveling to Lubbock Christian for a three-game series. The series will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m.
