Highlander soccer teams play despite bad weather
LAWTON, Okla. (BVM) — It wasn’t the best weather for a soccer game, but that couldn’t keep the Lawton MacArthur soccer teams off the pitch.
The Lady Highlanders were able to come out on top of their game 2-0, but the boys team was shut out by Santa Fe South, 6-0.
Santa Fe South scored the first goal of the game on a free kick. The free kick was given after a Macarthur player passed the ball to the goalkeeper, and he picked the ball up with his hands. It’s a rare penalty, but the goalie can’t pick up the ball unless the last player to touch the ball is an opposing player.
Shortly after that free kick, Santa Fe South would put another shot into the back of the net. Going into halftime, the scoreboard read 2-0. In the second half, everything would go wrong for the Highlanders. Santa Fe South would score four more goals, and the final score was 6-0.
Both teams fought hard despite the weather. Next Friday, both squads play at Ardmore.
