With a goalie goal from 60-yards, Terrapins men’s lacrosse captures fifth Big Ten title
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (BVM) — The Maryland Terrapins men’s lacrosse team just won their fifth Big Ten regular season championship on April 18. The No. 1 ranked team won 18-8 over Ohio State, earning the Terps their first title since 2018.
Sophomore attack/midfielder Jack Sawyer and transfer attackman Eric Holden both made their first career goals. But there was another player who put his name on the score sheet by making a surprise move; sophomore goalie Logan McNaney, who scored from 60 yards away.
“We were two man down, kind of got a little messy there,” McNaney said in a Twitter video. “… I grabbed [the ball] and recognized that they were in a 10-man ride, we have our calls, and I was taking space and then the goalie came out… and I saw the goal open and I decided to shoot and it went in.”

The standout player of the game was senior attackman Jared Bernhardt who holds Maryland’s all-time career goal record. He led the team with six goals to extend his record to 170. Bernhardt has been a great force for the Terps especially over the past year. The team has not lost a game since February 2020 — making the Big Ten win their 11th straight victory.
The Terps remain perfect for this season with a 9-0 record. Next, the team will finish out the regular season with a game against Johns Hopkins on April 24 before the start of the 2021 Big Ten tournament during the first week of May.
