Albion College wins first home football game since 2019

ALBION, Mich. (BVM) — The past year has created a wild ride for college athletics, particularly at the Division III level. But with spring football finally commencing, schools like Albion College are making long-awaited returns to the field.

Albion had not played a home football game since Nov. 2, 2019, but that all changed last weekend. The Britons suited up at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium for the first time in well over a year on Saturday, doing battle with Adrian College.

The game would start out a bit shaky for the Britons, however. After a pick-six, Adrian took an early 14-0 lead just minutes into the game. Although Albion would quickly comeback to tie the game at 14, the team still trailed by two at the half.

Back-and-forth scores would allow Adrian to maintain its two-point advantage early in the third, but from there it was all Albion, as the Britons scored the final 17 points of the game in a 49-34 victory.

The Britons’ offense was led by junior quarterback Jack Bush, who threw for 401 yards and three touchdowns in the contest. Albion would total 537 yards of offense in the game, aided by 78 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Philip Jones-Price.

Defensively, the Britons also got some strong performances, particularly from Donovan Slates who made nine tackles and had an interception.

With an abbreviated schedule that has seen several cancelations, the home contest for Albion will be its only during the 2021 spring season. As a result, the eight seniors on the Britons’ roster were honored.

The win helped Albion improve to 2-0. The final remaining scheduled game for the Britons will come on Saturday when they travel to take on Olivet.
