Citrus’ Cook chooses Tennessee Wesleyan

INVERNESS, Fla. (BVM) — When the Citrus Hurricanes’ soccer season ended with a playoff loss this year, it was the end of a spectacular high school career, but a new beginning for senior Jarimyah Cook. The talents he displayed on the pitch earned him the chance to play at the collegiate level, and deciding on a school was his next focus.

This past week, Cook inked his commitment to Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens, Tenn. The Bulldogs are an NAIA university that competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Coach Luke Winter and company were an impressive 9-4 this season, but got upset in the first round of the AAC Tournament.

Of its 30 players, just nine were seniors so Cook will be joining a team ready to redeem itself after an unexpected finish to the year. The Bulldogs will be getting a good one as Cook led the Hurricanes in points, more than doubling his next closest teammate. The 5-foot-11 team captain had 32 goals and 11 assists on the year, finishing with 75 points.

The Hurricanes will surely miss Cook next season, but he’s on to new pastures and will represent Citrus High School well with his on-field production.
