Star Valley’s Peter Visser claims 4th Gatorade award
AFTON, Wyo. (BVM) — The completion of another long-distance running season now traditionally means another award is on the way for Star Valley High School’s Peter Visser, who has established himself as the best in Wyoming.
On April 15, the 6-foot-1, 140-pound senior was named the Gatorade Wyoming Boys Cross Country Player of the Year for the third consecutive year. Visser also won the state’s Gatorade award for boys track and field last year despite losing out on his junior spring season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This past fall, Visser won the 3A cross country individual state championship for the third consecutive year with a time of 15 minutes, 48.76 seconds, which was 42.56 seconds faster than the closest competitor, while helping Star Valley finish as the runner-up to team state champion Lander Valley.
“Peter Visser is simply in his own league,” Lander Valley head coach Kevin Green said in a Gatorade press release. “He stands above the rest.”
Visser is an eight-time state champion between his two sports and he’ll look to add to his collection of medals this spring during his final outdoor track and field season. After that, Visser will take his exceptional long-distance running abilities to the Division I college level in Ogden, Utah where he’ll compete for Weber State University.
