UNM men’s tennis wins back-to-back Mountain West titles
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (BVM) — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team joined in the recent run of success that UNM has had in conference championship competitions by capturing its second straight Mountain West Conference title with a 4-1 victory over Air Force on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. The win earned the Lobos the league’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth, which will be their first postseason trip since 2015.
The only point UNM lost came in doubles after the No. 1 tandem of Dominic West and Sergio Molina and the No. 2 duo of Raul Dobai and Jake Trondson lost a pair of tiebreakers (8-6 and 7-5, respectively). The Lobos dominated singles play, however, with four straight-set sweeps by Dobai, West, Stepan Holis and Rafael Abdulsalam.

It’s the third conference title in the past two weeks for UNM, which also recently captured MW titles in women’s soccer and women’s golf. For the men’s tennis program, it’s the eighth MW title overall and the 14th conference title when also counting the six Western Athletic Conference championships the program has won.
The Lobos will find out their first opponent for the NCAA Tournament when the selection show is held May 3. The tournament will run May 20-29 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
