Lowell Red Raiders enjoy standout football season

LOWELL, Mass. (BVM) — Heading into the unfamiliar season, the Lowell Red Raiders were excited to even have a season to play. Now with the season coming to a close, the Red Raiders have something else to be excited for.

Coming off five straight losing seasons, Lowell enjoyed one of its best seasons in 2021 capping off a unique spring experience. After losing their first two games of the year, the Red Raiders rebounded by winning five straight to end their season. It was the first time since 2014 that the team finished with a record above .500. First-year coach Rob Pike came in with a track record of turning around football programs and the Lowell head coach wouldn’t disappoint in his opening season.

In the team’s last matchup of the year, the Red Raiders came out with their most dominating win beating Billerica Memorial, 48-7. The group was led by senior Keven Yrrizarry who rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns, while also getting it done on the defensive side of the ball by recovering a fumble and returning a 59-yard interception for a touchdown. Junior Aaron Morris and senior Jack Frediani also rushed for touchdowns on the day.

With their season coming to a close, the Red Raiders will look to build off their positive momentum next fall.
