Utah welcomes Texas Tech transfer Maka Jackson

SALT LAKE CITY (BVM) – Utah women’s basketball added a talented guard to its roster for the 2021-22 season, the team announced on Wednesday.

Texas Tech transfer Maka Jackson comes to the Utes with 48 games of experience over two seasons with the Red Raiders.

“I am really excited about Maka joining our program,” Utah head coach Lynne Roberts said in a press release. “She fills an immediate need on our roster with her tremendous athleticism, the ability to defend the perimeter, and a proven competitor who plays with enthusiasm and passion. It has been fun to get to know her through the recruiting process. She will fit right in with our team’s culture and mindset.”

Jackson played in 24 games for Texas Tech last season, starting 14, and averaged 6.4 points to go along with 3.5 rebounds and two assists. The 5-foot-8 senior was also one of the Red Raiders’ best defenders over the last two seasons.

The Ewa Beach, Hawaii native began her collegiate career at South Georgia Tech and was the 15th-ranked JUCO player in the country before transferring to Texas Tech.

Utah will welcome Jackson and University of Tennessee-Martin transfer Dasia Young to Salt Lake City after the Utes finished 5-16 in 2020-21.
