Middletown QB Davis, a top 300 recruit, commits to South Carolina

MIDDLETOWN, Del. (BVM) — One of the highest-ranked football recruits in the state of Delaware has made his collegiate decision. Middletown High School quarterback Braden Davis, who is ranked in ESPN’s top 300 nationally and is listed as the No. 1 recruit in Delaware by 247 Sports, announced his commitment to the University of South Carolina during a ceremony at the school on April 30, the decision was also streamed for fans who couldn’t be in attendance through Instagram Live. Davis selected the Gamecocks over Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Stanford and West Virginia.

Braden Davis made his decision known to the public via an Instagram Live post on his personal page showing his commitment to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Davis had a unique journey getting to this point. Following two stellar years with the Cavaliers, Davis earned lots of attention on the recruiting trail, which would eventually lead to him earning over 20 Division I offers. However, due to the state of Delaware delaying its decision to play a fall football season, Davis had to act fast to keep his reputation up and strike while the iron was hot.

With that in mind, Davis transferred to Lake Minneola High School in Florida to play a full football season as a junior. Unfortunately for Davis, an ankle injury would see the quarterback miss most of the season anyway, though when he was on the field he still showed why he was considered one of the best.

Following the season in Florida, Davis returned to the Cavaliers in the offseason so he could begin what he started when he was a freshman. With two other Cavs teammates receiving Division I looks, Middletown certainly has the talent to once again contend for a state title, especially with a talent like Davis under center.

“Braden has done it the right way,” Middletown head coach Zach Blum said in April. “He just handles everything with a great deal of maturity. … We couldn’t be anymore pleased with what he’s done so far. … To have Braden come back for his senior year will be great for us.”

Davis becomes the first ESPN 300 recruit in the Class of 2022 for the Gamecocks and just their third player overall joining Georgia tackle Grayson Mains and Florida safety Anthony Rose, who are both ranked as three-star recruits. With the addition of a quarterback like Davis, who ranks as the third-best dual-threat quarterback in the country, South Carolina could soon see a surge in skilled position players coming to join the talented signal-caller.

For Davis, the transition from high school to college should be an easy one. With his dad, Antone, being a former University of Tennessee and Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman, Braden will know the rigors and adjustments needed to be made at the next levels.

Given his skillset, Braden should be able to represent Middletown and the state of Delaware well. Southeastern Conference coordinators will have their hands full over the next few years with Braden and the Gamecocks on the schedule.
