Shibles welcomed as next Dartmouth women’s basketball head coach

HANOVER, N.H. (BVM) — Dartmouth women’s basketball has a new face of the program with its recent hire of Adrienne Shibles. Shibles becomes the fifth Big Green head women’s basketball coach in the school’s 48-year varsity history.

“I’m excited to welcome Adrienne and her family to our Dartmouth community,” Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Roby said. “She is a proven winner with a commitment to empowering young women to reach their full potential in every way. She is well respected throughout college basketball and will provide our women’s basketball program with dynamic leadership for many years to come.”

Shibles is coming over from Bowdoin College where she spent the past 13 years as the Polar Bears’ head coach. In her tenure with the program, she helped lead the Bowdoin to a record of 281-67, while qualifying for the NCAA Tournament 11 times. Shibles also reached the Sweet Sixteen eight times with two Final Four appearances.

“I would like to thank Peter Roby and the search committee for this amazing opportunity,” Shibles said. “The process revealed that Dartmouth is a perfect fit for me, my family and my coaching philosophy, combining high-achieving academics with elite women’s basketball. I’m extremely excited and can’t wait to get started.

“I will forever be thankful to everyone in the Bowdoin community for their support over the last 13 years. I will always treasure the incredible memories with colleagues and staff, our passionate fans and, of course, the incredible student-athletes I had the privilege to coach. I am confident that the extraordinary legacy of Bowdoin women’s basketball will continue well into the future.”

The now-former Bowdoin coach was named the Coach of the Year in Maine four times and will leave the program as the winningest coach in Bowdoin women’s basketball history.

Shibles will be taking over for Belle Koclanes who accepted a position as the president of the non-profit, Strive: How You Lead Matters. Koclanes led the Big Green to a 10-17 record in her last season in 2019-20 after the Ivy League canceled play for the past basketball season.
