Gateway’s Cross headed for the DII ranks

LAKE CITY, Fla. (BVM) — As a junior college, Florida Gateway College gets its athletes for just two years with the hopes of sending them forward to the next level. With their season now over, the Timberwolves have recently seen that goal come true. Joshua Cross is their first player from the Class of 2021 to commit to playing college hoops beyond the JUCO stage.

Cross decided on Kentucky State University, a Division II school in Frankfort, Ky. The Thorobreds struggled this past season in which they played just four games, battling with the lingering effects of COVID-19. They went 0-4 on the year, showing a need for some depth.

In a small sample size of just nine games this past season, Cross showed why he could be the piece they are looking for. Though his percentages weren’t through the roof in terms of efficiency, the guard showed that he can do a little bit of everything. He averaged 9.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

Originally from Orlando, Fla., this is the first time basketball will take him out of state. His prep years were played at Lake Nona High School where he was also a do-it-all type player when looking at the box score.
