Middleton girls cross country dominates at state

JANESVILLE, Wis. (BVM) — The alternate fall girls cross country season came to an end on Saturday with Middleton High School finishing in dominant fashion at the state meet.

In Janesville, Wis., the Cardinals won a team state championship with a total score of 41, beating second-place Oregon by 35 points. It was the team’s first title since 2006 and an improvement on their fourth-place finish in 2019.

Four of the Cardinals finished in the top 10 with junior Lauren Pansegrau taking first overall, winning an individual state title. Her time of 17 minutes, 7.3 seconds was more than a minute faster than anyone else at the meet and broke the state record by more than 30 seconds.

The previous record was 17:44.6 and held by Onalaska’s Kora Malecek.
