Green Wave golf headed to Florence

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (BVM) — With the South Carolina state golf championship on the horizon, the Summerville Green Wave had some work to do in order to qualify. At the 5A Lower State championship match on May 10, the boys golf team did just enough to squeak into the state championship round.

With 16 teams competing, eight were going to advance to Florence for the May 17-18 5A state title. Summerville finished with a 317 team score, good enough for seventh place. Now a group that has been playing by committee all season long will head to the Country Club of South Carolina for a chance to win it all.

In 5A Lower championship competition, the Green Wave was led by AJ Martino who shot a 75, just three over par. The next strongest showing came from freshman Jake Traylor who shot a 79 followed by another Traylor, Josh, with an 81. The group was rounded out by two seniors, Bonner Guilford and Thomas McGinnis, with an 82 and 97, respectively.
