CSU men’s track and field continues Mountain West dominance

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (BVM) — It’s been a successful spring for the Colorado State University men’s track and field program and it continued Wednesday as the Rams reeled in a bunch of Mountain West Conference honors.

Fourteen members of the CSU men’s team were named All-Mountain West after the Rams won the outdoor conference meet for the second straight year this past weekend in Clovis, Calif. Two of those athletes were awarded in multiple events as Tom Willems was given the nod for finishing second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 200 while Eric Hamer earned the honor for his first-place performances in the 10,000 and 5,000-meter runs.

Hamer, named the MW Most Outstanding Performer, accounted for two of the Rams’ four individual championships at Saturday’s conference meet, with Andrew Doctor also taking first in the 110-meter hurdles and Dawson LaRance doing the same in the 800-meter run. CSU also had nine second-and third-place finishes as it recorded a total of 206 points to run away from second-place Air Force (177.50). Head coach Brian Bedard was also awarded as the MW Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the third time after leading the Rams to the MW title for the third time in program history.

Next up for CSU will be the NCAA West Regionals which will take place May 26-29 in College Station, Texas.
