Syracuse women’s basketball adds K-State star

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (BVM) — Syracuse head women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman has been busy this offseason. The long-time Orange coach will add another talented player to his growing roster with the recent transfer announcement of former Kansas State guard Christianna Carr.

Carr will become the fifth offseason transfer for Syracuse after playing for the Wildcats the past three seasons. The star guard is coming off her best collegiate season where she averaged 15.2 points and 4.9 rebounds.

“I had a really good relationship with Coach Q,” Carr told Sports Illustrated. “Just talking to him throughout my recruiting process, he was one that was always asking how I was doing. Just questions outside of basketball, we really connected. We talked about a lot of life things. I feel like he really wanted to listen to what I wanted to accomplish at Syracuse and I trusted that he was going to be able to do that for me. Help me accomplish my dreams. That was what it really boiled down to. My connection with coach Q and just how much I mean to him.”

The incoming Syracuse guard started in 24 games last year and was selected as an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. Carr is just 28 points shy of amassing 1,000 career points at the collegiate level and will leave Kansas State ranked 10th in program history for 3-point field goals made with 166.

The 6-foot-1 guard will join an Orange squad that went 15-9 in 2021 and will be looking to improve after being knocked out by UConn in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Along with the recent transfers, the Orange will welcome the No. 11ranked recruiting as they look to replace many key starters like Kiara Lewis, Emily Engstler, and Tiana Mangakahia. With Syracuse having 12 players entered the transfer pool after the 2021 season, Carr will be a welcome sight for a much different Orange team.
