Two Warren East female athletes, Epley and Franklin, sign to play at Campbellsville

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (BVM) — Two of Warren East’s senior female student-athletes announced they would attend nearby Campbellsville University, though the two will participate in vastly different sports. Seniors Sarah Epley and Allyson Franklin signed their national letters of intent to attend Campbellsville during a ceremony at the school on May 23, with Epley planning to play softball for the Tigers while Franklin will participate in two sports, archery and soccer, for the NAIA school.

Epley has played a crucial role for the Lady Raiders’ softball team this spring. Currently, Warren East sits in the top 25 in the state of Kentucky softball rankings and Epley has started six games as the Lady Raiders’ pitcher and has pitched in nine total. So far, the senior has posted a 1-3 record in 29 innings pitched with an ERA of 5.79, 17 strikeouts and only nine walks. She has also batted a few times with a batting average of .300 in 10 plate appearances including three hits.

This spring, the Tigers softball team went an impressive 41-13 including winning the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship over Georgetown on May 8. The team would also win one game during the opening round of the NAIA tournament before falling to Olivet Nazarene University 7-4 on May 19 to end their season.

For Franklin, she helped the Lady Raiders soccer team to a 3-4 record during the 2020 season. She played in all seven games for Warren East on a team that scored 15 goals while only surrendering 10 goals all season. Campbellsville’s soccer team finished its season 8-7 which included making it to the quarterfinals of the MSC Tournament where they fell to Lindsey Wilson College 5-1 in the final game of the season on April 2. In archery, the Tiger’s placed sixth in the Indoor Mid-South Conference Tournament this spring.

With two of its student-athletes going to the in-state university, the relationship between the two schools will only grow stronger in the future. For Epley and Franklin, they will look to help aid the Tigers athletics programs as they have done for the Lady Raiders programs over the past four years.
