Springboro’s Jordan Hobbs officially commits to become a Michigan Wolverine

SPRINGBORO, Ohio (BVM) — Jordan Hobbs has been one of the top high school basketball players in the state of Ohio over the past few years. But now, she will head north after officially committing to play at the University of Michigan this week.

Hobbs had initially committed to play for the Rice Owls back in 2019, but now will play Power 5 college basketball in the Big Ten.

Throughout her high school career, Hobbs has been a leader on the floor for the Panthers. That became even more evident this past season as Springboro fielded a squad that had graduated seven seniors from last year.

But pairing up with fellow senior Payton Nation, as well as Emersyn Rimes, Hobbs helped lead Springboro to another double-digit win season. For her efforts, Hobbs was named a second-team All-Ohio selection. The senior averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game in her final season with the Panthers.

While the 6-foot-1 Hobbs is certainly a threat in the paint, she also is a skilled shooter overall, whether it is at the free throw line or beyond the arch.

Now, she will have her chance to prove herself at Michigan, where she will join a talented recruiting class that includes another big name from Ohio in Laila Phelia from Mount Notre Dame.

Indiana’s Ariana Wiggins and Taylor Gibson of Maryland are two additional highly-touted recruits in Michigan’s 2021 class. A bright future awaits each of the new Wolverines, and if her high school career is any indication, expect to hear Hobbs’ name often for the maize and blue in the years to come.
