Lukowski becomes Bay City Western’s all-time leading goal scorer

AUBURN, Mich. (BVM) — A missed spring sports season in 2020 impacted many things, including athletes’ abilities to set new records with just three years of play compared to a standard four. However, for players like Meagan Lukowski, that hasn’t mattered much.

Lukowski is a senior soccer star at Bay City Western High School. Although the Warriors lost a close 3-2 match with Gaylord in the district quarterfinals on Thursday, there was still reason to celebrate for Lukowski, as she finished her career as the program’s all-time leading goal scorer with 81.

The moment Lukowski broke the record in the Warriors’ final regular season contest may have given her a sense of déjà vu based on what happened early in the season. After scoring her 65th career goal at the Bay County Championship, everyone around the program thought she had become the Warriors’ top goal scorer. However, new information came out that former Bay City Western player, Erin Murphy, had actually scored 75 goals during the late 1990s.

Despite this, Lukowski put her head down and got back to work. In that final regular season game, the soccer star scored an impressive five goals on her way to officially breaking the record. The forward finished with 33 goals on the season.

Throughout her career, Lukowski has often looked up to her older sister, Kylie. During her freshman season at Bay City Western, Meagan got to play up with Kylie on the varsity team, and showed her talent right away with 17 first-season goals.

Meagan’s sophomore season would be even more impressive, however, as she scored 23 goals and 11 assists. The forward also helped lead the Warriors to a 17-4-2 record and district championship.

With Kylie already a college soccer player at Saginaw Valley State University, Meagan is set to soon follow in her footsteps.

The Midland senior will join the Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team next fall, and now, can do so as arguably the best girls soccer player to ever come through Bay City Western.
