Schottland, a sophomore, to represent Sparta HS at NJSIAA boys state tennis tournament

SPARTA, N.J. (BVM) — The 2021 New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) singles tournament for the boys state title is set to take place starting June 12 at Mercer County Park. Thomas Schottland, a sophomore, will represent Sparta High School at the tournament.

Schottland had a successful season this year considering that he pulled off several 6-0 wins over the past month. He even won the first round of the NJSIAA Section 1, Group 2 tournament against Lakeland’s Matthew Rosenblatt, 6-0.

At the following meet, which took place on May 26, Schottland advanced over Pascack Hills’ Luke Patelsky during the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Schottland now has just under two weeks to prepare for the state tournament which will take place over multiple days depending on how far he advances.

The 5-foot-8, 130-pounds athlete still has two more high school seasons left which means many more chances to represent Sparta at the state level. No matter how he performs at state, the top-tier performer will have many eyes on him now that he has been recognized as a top seed.
