Monmouth baseball concludes season in MAAC Tournament
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (BVM) — The Monmouth University baseball team went into the game against Fairfield with a 2-2 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament. On May 27, Monmouth fell to No. 1 seeded Fairfield after a 3-1 loss which ended their 2021 season.
“We battled against a real good Fairfield team and came up short,” head baseball coach Dean Ehehalt said in a press release. “Once again, we battled to the last pitch, which has been consistent with how we have played all season; never quit and fight until the end. The guys had a great regular season. It is a testament to our older guys to endure the ending of the 2020 season, then to come out this year and have a memorable year. I’ll miss those guys and appreciate all their contributions on and off the field. We look forward to getting back to the MAAC Championships next season.”
Next year, left handed pitcher Trey Dombroski will return for the 2022 season as a junior. Recently, he and infielder Dixon Black, who will return as a sophomore, were named to the MAAC all-tournament team. Dombroski threw 7.1 shutout relief innings during the game against Fairfield and Black got an RBI single on the board.
Monmouth concluded the season with a 24-13 record and next year the team will have a handful of returners to lead the way for another successful season.
