Ursinus College has male and female top finisher in javelin at Division III championships
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (BVM) — Both the Ursinus College men’s and women’s track and field teams had a top finisher in the javelin event at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at North Carolina A&T.
On the men’s team, Evan Giannetti finished out his senior season as the No. 11 ranked thrower at the national meet. His first throw cleared just 150-feet-3.9-inches, but Giannetti had a huge comeback with his final throw of 184-feet-5-inches. This was the best of his day and it secured him a top-15 spot.
Earlier in the season, Giannetti was the Centennial Conference javelin champion. He also secured U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Mideast Region status. Giannetti finished out his college career with a 194-4 record.
On the women’s team, Isabelle Deal finished out her season by placing at No. 8 after marking 135-feet-1-inch on her sixth and final throw. She is now Ursinus’ first javelin All-American in school history.
Earlier this season, Deal acquired 2021 USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region status in shot put and javelin, as well as two Centennial Conference gold medals in both events. Deal will go into the 2022 season as a junior and there are high expectations for her third year campaign.
