Colorado State women’s soccer names Keeley Hagen new coach

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (BVM) — Colorado State University has found the new leader for its women’s soccer program, and she’ll bring some winning experience with her.

University of Tennessee alum Keeley Hagen officially became the Rams’ second head coach in program history Tuesday after being an assistant coach for the past decade at the University of Texas where she helped the Longhorns win 92 matches and reach the NCAA Tournament four times.

“I want to thank President Joyce McConnell, Director of Athletics Joe Parker and the search committee,” Hagen said in an official press release. “My husband, Matt, and I are excited to join the Ramily and the vibrant community of Fort Collins. It is an exciting time for our young program to reach new heights. It’s time to teach, motivate, and inspire our group to pursue excellence in every facet.”

Hagen, 38, takes the place of former head coach Bill Hempen, who was fired in early May after CSU went 36-85-20 in his eight seasons at the helm. Hagen will look to lead the Rams to a level of success similar to what she experienced with the Longhorns and the Vols. Tennessee reached the NCAA Tournament twice in the four years she was on staff (2008-2011). Hagen, a member of multiple U.S. Soccer youth national teams, was a three-time All-American and a four-time All-SEC selection as a player for the Vols (2001-2004) before advancing to play at the professional level from 2005-2011.

“When we began this search, we knew we wanted to identify an individual who has been highly successful as both a coach and a player, someone who is passionate about the growth of our students on and off the field, and someone who is prepared to take this program to the next level,” Parker said in the release. “Keeley Hagen checks all of those boxes and more.”
