Pike Road boys and girls soccer teams make school history with area championship wins
PIKE ROAD, Ala. — History! For the first time in school history the Girls and Boys Varsity soccer teams won their respective Area championships. Both teams beat Sylacauga High School to advance to the second round of the playoffs. The girls fell to John Carroll Catholic High School (Birmingham), and the boys fell to American Christian (Tuscaloosa) ending their seasons.
Pike Road School System opened during the 2015-2016 school year. The soccer team competed that spring as a co-ed team because there weren’t enough students to make two teams. The first group of athletes were seventh and eighth graders, because the school only went through the eighth grade. Pike Road was able to make two teams during the 2017-2018 season. Many of the players from the first team are still playing. Congratulations to both teams on their history making seasons!
