Aurora’s Vondra continues to earn accolades after being named DIII All-American

AURORA, Ill. (BVM) — The Aurora University Spartans had a tremendous baseball season this spring, and it is thanks in large part to the contributions of senior outfielder Corey Vondra.

On the year, Vondra batted an impressive .410 with eight home runs, six triples and 17 doubles. To go along with his nine stolen bases, the senior batted in 56 runs while scoring an additional 65.

Vondra saved his best for the biggest stage, too, as he hit four home runs — two of which were grand slams — during play in the NCAA Division III St. Paul Regional. Overall, he went 8-for-15 with 14 RBIs and six runs scored during the Spartans’ tournament appearance.

The Spartans were dominant as a whole throughout 2021, finishing an impressive 38-8 while winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) regular season and tournament titles. The 38 wins tied a program record, while the NCAA Regionals appearance was the third consecutive for Aurora, and the 23rd all-time in program history.

Predictably, Vondra has been well recognized for his efforts this spring, being named a first-team all-conference player in the NACC as well as a first-team all-region player by D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association.

But recently, he earned perhaps his most significant honor, as Vondra was named a 2021 NCAA Division III honorable mention All-American by D3baseball.com. He became the 29th Aurora baseball player to ever be named an All-American, and the first since 2018.

The honor caps a terrific season for the Downers Grove, Ill. native, one that has gone down in the record books for both Vondra and the Spartans.
