The formidable Massillon Washington Tigers: 2020 season recap
MASSILLON, Ohio — As fans look forward to the new season of high school football, it’s appropriate to take a look back at the immediate past. The Massillon Tigers of Massillon Washington High School, who are always elegantly displaying their black and orange colors, were outstanding in the 2020 season, racking up 10 victories in the 12 games they played.
Their great performances have been consistent over the years as they have been regional champions for four consecutive seasons: 2017, 2018, 2019 as well as 2020. The Tigers may have had a somewhat slow start to their season last year, as they lost their first game of the season in a 24-23 loss to St. Edward, however they made a quick recovery against Bishop Sycamore in a 35-0 victory. After their initial loss, the Tigers went on a 10-game winning streak that featured some imposing victories, the 56-0 victory against Walnut Ridge particularly standing out.
The Tigers won five of their six playoff games, eventually losing the last game of the season to Archbishop Hoban in 35-6. They had a great season overall in 2020 and they will definitely be looking forward to doing better in the new season, striving to go unbeaten throughout the season.
The new high school football season kicks off on August 4 at Knights of Columbus, however the Tigers will have their season opener against Pickerington Central at 7:30 p.m. on August 20 at their home field, Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
