Zimmer to the Peacocks’ rescue
JEFFERSON, Ga. (BVM) — The Zimmer family will be remembered in Jackson County High School sports history for years to come as Kedric Zimmer has become the latest one from his long line of siblings to commit to the next level.
The Panthers’ standout pitcher has put pen to paper on an agreement to join the St. Peter’s University Peacocks at the Division I level. His brother, Kolin, also played college baseball at Oglethorpe University, while sisters Kelcie and Kylee both played collegiate volleyball. However, Kedric is the first one to go D1.
As a senior this past season, Kedric led the Panthers to a 16-12 record behind a 6-2 record as a starter, registering a 3.04 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 45 innings of work. These valuable innings of pitching will go a long way for the Peacocks who struggled mightily in their 2021 season.
The Jersey City college went 4-24, dropping every series they competed in this season. They had just one pitcher with a sub-4.00 ERA, with nine of 13 players who registered innings pitched having an ERA over 10.00.
While Jackson County will be losing a good one, St. Peter’s will be gaining a player that could turn its fortunes around.
