Multiple Richmond Hill players earn all-state honors
RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (BVM) — With the high school baseball season now in the rear view, the Georgia Dugout Preview Magazine had time to reflect on this season’s output. The magazine, noted by prepsportsreport.com as one of the premier recognition sources for Georgia baseball players and teams, releases their yearly GHSA All-State teams.
In this year’s selections, multiple Richmond Hill Wildcats were accounted for. Though none were first team honorees, pitcher Leighton Finley was a second team all-state selection. The 6-foot-4 prospect delivers a fastball topping out over 90 miles per hour and keeps hitters off balance by mixing in a curveball that he can pound the strike zone with. A Class of 2022 graduate, Finley is committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.
Finley was joined by two other Wildcats as an all-state selection with Luke Boone and Evan Cowan earning honorable mention nods. Boone, who is also a Class of 2022 graduate, is also committed to a Division I school as he’ll be joining Georgia State when his time at Richmond Hill comes to an end. Cowan, yet another Class of 2022 graduate, has signed with NJCAA school Andrew College. All three will make Richmond Hill a force to be reckoned with next season.
The Wildcats ended the year with a 17-16 record but were ousted in the second round of the GHSA playoffs by Houston County, losing both games in the best-of-three series.
