Westwood football players find college homes

AUSTIN, Texas (BVM) — For some high schools around the nation, 2020 is the year to put in the rearview mirror. But for some Westwood seniors, 2020 was their final year to prove what they could do on the field. And now, three seniors will be playing football at the collegiate level.

On June 8, seniors EJ Wiley, Nate Anderson and Juju DeBerry had their signing day at Westwood High School. Anderson and DeBerry will remain teammates as they both decided to attend Hardin Simmons University. Wiley decided to attend Iowa Wesleyan University.

According to MaxPreps, Anderson rushed for 1,970 yards, scored 21 TDs and rushed for 73 yards per game. Deberry, a wide receiver, caught seven TDs, averaged 74 receiving yards and hauled in 1,328 receiving yards.

EJ Wiley, a defensive end, had 61 total tackles (37 solo), two sacks and averaged four tackles a game.

Both of the teams’ 2020 seasons were affected by COVID-19. And with the additions of these talented players, both teams will be looking to have a successful 2021 season.
