Daytona State impresses with standout soccer season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (BVM) — After a 7-0 victory over USC Lancaster, Daytona State soccer capped off one of its best seasons to date as they headed towards a spot in the NJCAA National Men’s Soccer Tournament.

The final regular season victory for the Falcons kept alive the team’s perfect season, collecting eight straight victories in their 2021 season. The dominating year from the Falcons could be seen on both offense and defense as Daytona State outscored its opponents 41-5 en route to its 8-0-1 regular-season record.

Led by freshman forwards Kevin Kelly and Yutaro Tsukada, the Falcons were able to weather any obstacles in their way after two game cancellations in April. The freshman duo combined for 14 goals and 37 points in their opening year, heating up towards the end of the season as the Falcons started to get on a roll.

After their commanding regular season, the Falcons headed into the NJCAA tournament as the No. 3 seed. The appearance would be short lived after losing their two matchups in pool play.

Even with the disappointing end to the season, the Falcons have plenty to be excited for as they look to continue their success next season with an already young roster.
