Mahtomedi softball gets rematch against in St. Anthony Village in sectional championship
CIRCLE PINES, Minn. (BVM) — On Wednesday, Mahtomedi softball won a high-scoring game against Hill-Murray to advance to the Section 4AAA championship to play St. Anthony Village.
The Zephyrs lost to St. Anthony Village in the winner’s bracket finals last Friday, 7-0, setting up their elimination matchup against Hill-Murray. In their must-win game, Mahtomedi had 19 hits, 16 singles and three doubles, to beat Hill-Murray 14-10.
This was the second time the Zephyrs had to beat Hill-Murray in the sectional tournament. In the winner’s bracket quarterfinals, Mahtomedi beat Hill-Murray 14-2.
Now the Zephyrs have a rematch against the No. 1-seeded St. Anthony Village and will have to beat them twice if they want to advance to the state tournament.
Mahtomedi entered the sectional tournament as the No. 2 seed after going 12-11 and 8-5 in conference play. They will face off against St. Anthony Village tonight.
