Stoneburg heading to Omaha an Olympic hopeful

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. (BVM) —  Pat Toner of Treasure Coast Aquatics (TCA) has been a swim coach for over 50 years and he’s had some success along the way. But one thing he hasn’t experienced yet is the joy of coaching an Olympic swimmer.

For the first time in his long career, that spell could be broken. Blair Stoneburg, a member of TCA and a student-athlete at Jensen Beach High School, has qualified for the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. this week.

The TCA team gave her a sendoff celebration on Tuesday, but not everybody will be cheering her on from home. Coach Toner will be traveling alongside Stoneburg as they head to the Cornhusker state to compete.

The high school junior is already an FHSAA state champion and University of Wisconsin – Madison commit, but now she wants to add Team USA to her resume. With her 2020 times, Stoneburg would have qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 500 free and 1650 free, so being an Olympian isn’t that far off.

As the No. 1-ranked swimmer in the state of Florida, many will be cheering her on as she looks to represent the Sunshine state.
