Harrison’s Griff brothers take home Section 1 title
HARRISON, N.Y. (BVM) — Harrison’s senior tennis duo Connor and David Griff were missing one thing as they headed into their final high school season: a Section 1 title.
Since the eighth grade, the Griff brothers have continuously run into the hot hand, losing to the eventual state champions in every year they’ve competed in sectionals. After the COVID-19 pandemic took away their opportunity last season, the Harrison tandem made sure to not let it happen again.
With a look towards a Section 1 title, the Harrison duo dominated their competition throughout the quarterfinals and semifinals, not allowing their opponents to capture a single game as they moved through the doubles bracket. A win over Mamaroneck’s Owen Zerbib and Lucas Bucci would vault Connor and David into the championship game.
With a Section 1 title matchup lined up against the No. 2-seeded pair of Jack and Jason Wei, the Griff brothers would come out strong, winning 6-2, 6-1, as they captured their first doubles title over the Horace Greeley pair.
Throughout the tournament, the Griff brothers wouldn’t surrender a single set as the No. 1-seeded pair lived up to expectations. With the win, Connor and David will finally walk away with the one piece of hardware that eluded them.
