O’Donnell places in three events for Greenwich at the boys track and field CIAC State Open championships

GREENWICH, Conn. (BVM) — Junior Andrew O’Donnell was the star athlete for Greenwich High School at the boys track and field CIAC State Open championships on June 10 at Willow Brook Park.

O’Donnell became the State Open champion in the 400-meter dash after sprinting to a time of 48.31. He also placed at No. 4 in the 200-meter after clocking a time of 22.39.

He also went on to assist the 4×400-meter relay team to third place. He and Harrison Goldenberg, Gianluca Bianchi and Zachary Jelinek together ran a time of 3:24.13. Jelinek himself went on to win eighth place in the 800-meter after clocking 1:57.25.

After a very competitive day of racing by O’Donnell and the rest of the team, Greenwich as a team came in at No. 7 with 22 points. O’Donnell is expected to return for the 2022 season as a senior and all eyes will be on him leading up to next year’s state meet.
