Rumson-Fair Haven girls lacrosse are NJSIAA Group 2 state champions

RUMSON, N.J. (BVM) — No. 1 seed Rumson-Fair Haven (RFH) girls lacrosse beat No. 2 seed Allentown High School, 18-6, for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) South Group 2 title on June 10. This advanced RFH to face off against Summit High School at the NJSIAA State Finals on June 12.

The final match was mostly neck and neck. Going into halftime, RFH had the lead, 10-9, against Summit. RFH eventually ran out the clock with a 14-13 lead — giving the team it’s first Group 2 state final championship since 2016. The five-year drought is now over and the team has a lot to look forward to next season.

RFH finished out the season with a 19-2 record. The girls often dominated or had a 10 point lead at the end of almost every match. There were also seven games when their opponent scored one point or less. RFH almost had a perfect season, but the team had a bad day on May 6 during a match against Moorestown (19-7) and a week later lost by one point to Trinity Hall.

Next season, the girls are going for gold again, but before that, they may have a very competitive match-up against Moorestown and Trinity Hall.
