Norwalk HS wins first state baseball championship in school history under first year HC
NORWALK, Conn. (BVM) — The Norwalk High School Bears captured their first baseball state title in school history following the 2021 Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) Class LL state championship game on June 12.
Ryan Mitchell, a first year head coach for Norwalk and a Bears alum, led the team to victory this season. Norwalk ended the season with a 14-9 overall record. The championship game, which was played at Palmer Field in Middletown, was one for the books when Norwalk defeated Westhill High School 1-0.
“To do it here at a place that has been my home since I was a kid, it means the world to me,” Ryan Mitchell said in a post game press conference.

Mitchell played baseball at Norwalk and graduated in 2005. He worked his way up the coaching staff and served as an assistant for the baseball team after college. Now the head coach has a state title under his belt and there are high expectations for the new HC and returners of the team for the 2022 season.
The biggest hit of the season was made by Norwalk junior Konstantinos Kodonas. He was actually not part of the starting lineup, but ended up hitting the game winning ball at the state game. Alongside some other strong returning players and Mitchell — the team might be able to repeat a championship win.
