Naples high graduate headed to the Eagles

NAPLES, Fla. (BVM) —  Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. In what’ll be his second chance at sticking in the NFL, Michael Walker, a former Naples High School Golden Eagle and Boston College Eagle, is now a Philadelphia Eagle.

The former second team All-SEC wide receiver’s first NFL stint was when he signed with the in-state Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2019, but he didn’t make it past the preseason’s final cuts. Despite this, he was signed to the Jags’ practice squad and eventually, promoted to the active roster.

He made his NFL debut versus the Houston Texans that year, but the euphoria was short-lived. In December, Walker was placed on the injured reserve, effectively ending his rookie campaign. Injuries continued to plague him from that point forward, and eventually led to him getting waived with an injury settlement on Sept. 9, 2020.

However, now fully healthy and rearing for another opportunity, Walker has landed in Philly. When able to play, he’s proven to have some special team value at the very least, returning 18 kicks for 411 yards during his inaugural year with the Jaguars.

Still just 24 years old, a clean bill of health and some professional coaching may be able to surface some of Walker’s untapped potential.
