San Jose State men’s basketball adds Ole Miss transfer Shon Robinson
SAN JOSE, Calif. (BVM) – San Jose State men’s basketball coach Tim Miles on Friday announced another major addition to the 2021-22 roster. After introducing five newcomers to the program less than two weeks ago, Miles and the Spartans officially welcomed Ole Miss transfer Shon Robinson to San Jose.
ESPN’s No. 85 overall prospect in the Class of 2020 and a former four-star recruit, Robinson is headed to the South Bay after two seasons with the Rebels.
“I remember watching Shon as a junior in Wichita, Kansas, when his talent was just beginning to blossom,” Miles said in a press release. “I am thrilled we will be able to have the chance to develop him here at San Jose State.”
After redshirting for Ole Miss in 2019-20, the 6-foot-11 Robinson played sparingly in a reserve role for the Rebels last season. The Chicago native moved to Gilbert, Ariz., prior to his sophomore year of high school where he became one of the state’s top prospects at Eduprize High School.
Robinson earned first team all-state, all-conference and all-defense honors while leading the Eagles to a 26-2 record and the Canyon Athletic Association Division II State Championship in his lone season at Eduprize. He averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and three steals. The crowning moments for Robinson that season were a 42-point explosion against Heritage Academy and a 20-point, 10-block double-double to go along with six rebounds in the state finals.
Ole Miss was Robinson’s choice out of high school over offers from Gonzaga, Michigan, USC, Arizona and many others. But this time around Robinson has picked San Jose State, where he’ll have four years of athletic eligibility remaining.
