Worland soccer’s Cole Venable wins Gatorade award

WORLAND, Wyo. (BVM) — The Worland Warriors scored 121 goals during their undefeated (17-0) run to a third straight Class 3A boys soccer state title this spring. One-third of those goals came from Cole Venable, who played the leading role in the Warriors’ dominance. On Friday, Venable was rewarded for his remarkable season when he was named the Gatorade Wyoming Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

Venable had a state-best 40 goals, including the only goal of the May 22 state championship against Powell, which came in the 20th minute of the match. He also had 14 assists on the season for the Warriors, who will take a 46-match winning streak into next season.

“Cole Venable is a very dynamic player,” Lander High head coach Dean Schaff said in a Gatorade press release. “He’s extremely tough to defend and he can compete with anyone. That team works through him on almost every possession.”

Venable is only the second Gatorade award winner from Worland, joining Conrrado “Coni” Deniz who earned the honor in 2005.
