Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball inks USF Dons transfer

FULLERTON, Calif. (BVM) – Cal State Fullerton head men’s basketball coach Dedrique Taylor on Tuesday announced an in-state addition to the Titans’ roster. Damari Milstead has signed with the program for the upcoming 2021-22 season after one season at the University of San Francisco.

“Damari is an exceptional talent with a great deal of maturity and experience,” Taylor said in a press release. “He has a very high IQ and is interested in making others around him better, which leads to our version of success. We are fortunate to have him join us and excited to see his impact on our program.”

Playing in 22 games and starting in four for the Dons last season, Milstead averaged 15.1 minutes to go along with 4.7 points on 38 percent shooting from the field. He finished in double-figures on four occasions, including a season-high 24 points in a win over Long Beach State.

Milstead was a two-time letter winner for Grand Canyon University prior to his time at USF, playing in 60 games and starting 26 of them for the Lopes. He led GCU in minutes (28.3), assists (3.6) and steals (1.4) while averaging 10.3 points. The California native won 62 percent of his games at GCU before transferring to USF and brought a winning mentality with him from high school.

With a 100-29 record, Milstead is the winningest player in Moreau Catholic High School history, leading the program to three North Coast Section titles in four years.

After a 6-10 season littered with cancelations in 2020-21, Milstead will be a welcomed addition for Titans.
