Scooter Henderson set to join the G-league Ignite
MARIETTA, Ga. (BVM) —The trend to go straight to the G-league after high school really picked up steam last year, as highly touted prospects Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Daishen Nix, and Isaiah Todd signed with the NBA G-League Ignite.
Add Scooter Henderson’s name to that list of trailblazers. About four weeks ago, the five-star point guard out of Marietta, Georgia announced he will be skipping his senior year of high school and joining G-League Ignite. He is the first high school athlete in history to do so.
247Sports has Henderson rated as the third-best point guard in the country for the Class of 2022, and for good reason. The explosive point guard averaged 32 points, seven rebounds and six assists per game last year. And this production helped carry his team to the 6A state championship game appearance.
“Henderson is more than capable of making shots off the catch and [to] pull from mid-range out to three but the next step in his development will be to become a more consistent threat,” 247Sports scout Travis Branham said.
As it is for many young players, Henderson’s jump shot could very well be the swing trait that determines his success and longevity in the NBA. And Henderson sees the G-league as the best opportunity to sharpen these tools for the pros.
Along with the potential success of making it to the NBA, Henderson also sees it as an opportunity to lead the next generation of basketball players.
“I wanted to be a trailblazer to the younger guys that are watching me,” Henderson said in an interview with LakePoint Sports.
Henderson will be the first high school player ever to forgo his senior year, and commit to two years in the G-league, living up to that proclamation. The sky’s the limit for Henderson as he aims to make his dream of playing in the NBA come true.
