Chris Ross aims to continue success at Lovejoy

LUCAS, Texas (BVM) — Following the hiring of Chris Ross, the Lovejoy Leopards football team made it to the state championship game in his first year. Now in the 2021-22 season, the Leopards are looking to continue their success.

In 2020, Ross took over for former head coach Todd Ford who went 24-20 in four seasons with the Leopards.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Ross in Lovejoy,” athletic director Jim Bob Puckett said in a press release. “Coach Ross stood out in our pool of applicants for his unwavering dedication to service, academics, and competitive excellence.”

Chris Ross has had a long history of success as a head football coach. Before coming to Lovejoy, Ross was the athletic director at Red Oak High School. Ross had also spent time at Prosper, Leander and Wichita Falls High School. He also spent time as the director of football program development at Boise State University.

Ross has seen his teams make over ten playoff appearances, capture multiple state championships, won two 5A University Interscholastic League (UIL) Lone Star Cup awards and saw the Broncos win a Mountain West Conference championship.

With the new season quickly approaching, Ross and the Leopards are preparing to make another run at a state championship. It’s sure to be another successful season for the team.

“Coach Ross has an excellent reputation throughout the State and Nation not only for developing superior athletic programs but for developing leaders both on and off the field,” states Dr. Goddard, Lovejoy ISD Superintendent. “We are excited to welcome him to the Lovejoy family and look forward to the pervasive positive influence he will have for years to come in Lovejoy.”
