Plainfield East baseball advances to first state final four appearance

PLAINFIELD, Ill. (BVM) — The Plainfield East baseball team continues to make history, and did so with another upset recently. Taking on top-seeded Brother Rice in the Class 4A Crestwood Super-sectional, the Bengals earned a 3-0 victory to advance to the IHSA state semifinals.

The win marks the first time any Plainfield East team has advanced to a state final four. And although the Bengals are just 17-15 on the season, they look as dangerous as anyone headed into state.

Sophomore Brady Louck was a star for Plainfield East in its showdown with Chicago Catholic League champion Brother Rice, pitching a two-hit shutout while striking out 13 batters. Meanwhile, at the plate, Louck had three hits which included two doubles.

The Bengals first got on the board in the third inning of the contest. Following a leadoff single for Louck, junior Christian Mitchelle lined a triple to score the first run of the game. Jake Eason would follow with a sacrifice fly, giving Plainfield East a 2-0 lead.

Louck would give himself an insurance run with an RBI-double in the next inning, and from there, he would never look back. Despite walking Brother Rice’s leadoff hitter in the final inning, Louck went on to strike out the final three batters of the game.

Now, Plainfield East gets its chance at a coveted state title. Play will begin this weekend, with the Bengals taking on a talented 25-2 Rockton Hononegah squad in the Class 4A semifinal at DuPage Medical Group Field in Joliet, Ill. on Saturday morning.

It’s been one of the most impressive runs in school history for this year’s Bengals team, and they have the chance to make even greater history with a couple more wins.
