Bin-Wahad set to become a West Virginia Mountaineer

LOGANVILLE, Ga. (BVM) —  The West Virginia Mountaineers got a big commitment to their football program recently in the form of Mumu Bin-Wahad, a Class of 2022 safety out of Grayson High School. The 6-foot, 180-pound safety had offers from numerous Power 5 schools but chose the up-and-coming Mountaineers who enter this season fresh off of winning the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

In his junior campaign, Bin-Wahad was a starting safety for the loaded Rams who, according to MaxPreps, are ranked No. 2 in the country. The 14-0 GHSA state champions went into each game knowing that the secondary would be well-defended with Bin-Wahad back there.

The future Mountaineer led the Rams in passes defended, intercepting three of them as a result. When he gets into an open field situation, the star safety can deliver just as well. Bin-Wahad had 24 tackles on the season, even making his way into the backfield on occasion, making three tackles for loss and forcing one fumble.

Bin-Wahad’s decision to choose West Virginia was a difficult one, as he had nearly 30 schools to pick from. In-state school Georgia Tech was another one to have offered, with some bigger names like Arizona State, Michigan State, South Carolina and Penn State also extending scholarships.

With another year of high school football still to be played, things could change, but Bin-Wahad’s relationship with co-defensive coordinator ShaDon Brown and safeties coach Dontae Wright may be too much for him to sway his decision.
