Sacramento State men’s basketball adds Robert Morris transfer Cameron Wilbon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (BVM) – Sacramento State head men’s basketball coach Brian Katz on Wednesday announced the transfer of Cameron Wilbon to the Hornets. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound forward spent the last three seasons at Robert Morris, appearing in 51 games over two active seasons and sitting out another due to injury.

Katz believes Wilbon’s size and athleticism will be an ideal fit.

“Cameron is a hybrid forward who is very athletic and has a high basketball IQ,” Katz said in a press release. “He takes pride in the small details that lead to winning. Cameron is also a good rebounder with a nose for the ball. We like the fact that he has been in college for three seasons, but still has three years of eligibility remaining. We feel he is a great fit for our program, and are extremely excited he has decided to become a Hornet.”

Wilbon played in 32 games as a true freshman for the Colonials, shooting 44 percent from the field before missing out on his entire sophomore campaign. He played in all 19 games for Robert Morris this past season while averaging 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds on 48 percent shooting in 18.2 minutes.

The Gary, Ind., native was an all-state and all-area performer during both his junior and senior seasons at Merrillville High School. Wilbon averaged 16.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists while leading the Pirates to a section and regional championship as a senior.

Katz has now brought in five new faces as part of the Hornets’ 2021-22 recruiting class, as Wilbon joins Riverside City College guard Xavier Ford, Archbishop Mitty High School guard Marcus Greene, Jesuit High School guard Chris Holley and Toledo transfer Jonathan Komagum.
