Western New York commits pair up at Pitt

BUFFALO, N.Y. (BVM) — Pitt football has been busy scouring Western New York as the team landed a pair of recent commitments for its Class of 2022. Three-star recruits Jimmy Scott and Addison Copeland both decided to call Pittsburgh their home after next season, announcing their choice this week.

Scott, a defensive end from St. Francis High School in Hamburg was the No. 1 player at his position in New York. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound pass rusher tallied 22 tackles and two sacks in the Red Raiders fivegame shortened season. Before his opening season last year at St. Francis, Scott shined as a running back and defensive end at St. Joseph’s, scoring 15 touchdowns with the Marauders. He averaged 6.8 yards on the ground and racked up 4.5 sacks on the defensive end in 2019.

Scott’s commitment to the Panthers came after an official visit to the program, informing head coach Pat Narduzzi on Sunday.

“… Last but not least, I want to give a huge thank you to Coach Narduzzi, Coach Partridge and the staff for believing in me throughout this process,” Scott said in a social media post. “With that being said, I am proud to announce that I will be committing to the University of Pittsburgh!”

Along with the Panthers’ addition of Scott, Pitt kept busy in the area, gaining a commitment from Western New York Maritime/Health Sciences football star Addison Copeland III during the same week.

“After a long talk with my family and coaching staff, I have made my decision,” Copeland said in a social media post. “ It was a long, hard process and I put every ounce of my thought into a choice … I will be committing to the University of Pittsburgh.”

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound wide receiver had initially committed to Rutgers last summer, but reopened his recruiting during this past winter. Copeland was a major cog in the Falcons 6-1 season, leading them to their second straight Section VI Class B championship. The star receiver racked up 535 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns in 2020, while adding 25 tackles and four sacks on the defensive end.

The upcoming pair of recruits will be a major help for Pitt who have a history of recruiting the area. Both players will have one more season before they move on to the next level.
