Football to kick off Bethune-Cookman’s sports restart

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (BVM) — When the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily paralyzed the world of sports, college teams’ seasons were left hanging in the balance. Every school handled its situation differently, with Bethune Cookman choosing not to play any sports on its 2020-21 schedule.

With vaccines now prevalent and the world more knowledgeable, though, the Wildcats will soon be competing again. On Sept. 4 when the football team takes to the field, it’ll be the first athletic event for the university in nearly a year and a half.

They’ll be coming back in style, with the football schedule featuring two FBS teams to kick off the season. The opener will be on the road at the University of Texas – El Paso who was just 3-5 in last year’s shortened schedule. The Wildcats will then stay on the road the following week, heading to Orlando to take on the University of Central Florida who lost in the Boca Raton Bowl last season.

After so much time off, the roster and the staff will have their changes, but they’ll all be nipping at the bud to come back strong. The last time head coach Terry Sims led the Wildcats to a conference title was 2015, and this season will hopefully be able to live up to those past results
