Greenwich High School rugby team places fifth in the nation after tackling through the heat
GREENWICH, Conn. (BVM) — Greenwich High School arrived feeling the heat at the 2021 Rugby National Championships in Kansas City, Mo., literally. Temperatures were just under 100 degrees during the national tournament which played out from June 17-19.
But, that didn’t stop the Greenwich boys from giving it their all. Game times were shifted to avoid the peak of the heat, but a different type of heat was only coming their way. They kicked off their competition with a game against St. Ignatius and in the first half Greenwich was up 7-0. But, St.Ignatius came back stronger in the latter half of the game and defeated Greenwich, 10-7.
On the second day of the tournament, Greenwich took back control and won, 28-5 over St. Louis University High School. The next day, on June 19, Greenwich beat St. Thomas Aquinas 13-8 and ultimately placed fifth in the nation.
